Supernova 1998S in NGC 3877
This supernova is of type IIn and was discovered by Zhou Wan
(Beijing Astronomical Observatory) on CCD exposures from 1998 March
2.68 UT. Its position is R.A. = 11h 46m 06s.0, Decl. = +47° 28' 55"
(J2000.0), which is 14" W and 46" S from the nucleus of the galaxy.

Chart of SN 1998S
We have prepared an updated chart which covers a field of 35'x35' and
shows stars down to magnitude 15. This chart contains precise
V-magnitudes by Dalibor Hanzl. It is available electronically in
the file formats
GIF (size 13 kb),
JPG (70 kb), and
PostScript (151 kb, best resolution). Stefano Pesci of
ISN has prepared a more
detailed chart of
NGC 3877.
Comparison stars
An updated list of comparison stars with revised magnitude data is
available. For comparison the
old list remains accessible.
Photometry Updates
Photometry Update No. 1 (1998 Mar. 18, 16 kB)
Photometry Update No. 2 (1998 Mar. 24, 25 kB)
I have not found it neccessary to make further updates as
Taichi Kato and Stefano Pesci serve the astronomical community
well with their regular compilations of observations reported
to VSNET and ISN.
